Abuse and Neglect: ‘It’s not OK’
NDS and VALID have partnered to launch new training and resources targeted to service users, direct support workers and supervisors to recognise and understand abuse, neglect and violence toward people with disability.
The forum is being offered in two parts, if are welcome to attend the full forum or either session depending on your availability in Hobart or Launceston.
Dates and Locations:
Hobart Thursday 11th August at the Tasmanian Hockey Centre, New Town
Launceston Friday 12th August at the Launceston LINC, Launceston Civic Square
10.00am – 11.30am: During the first session, VALID will introduce their new training program; ‘Staying Safe’, for people with disability. This session is primarily aimed at people with disability and the people who support them. It includes video scenarios and information on types of abuse including financial abuse, neglect, emotional abuse, physical abuse and sexual abuse. The session will promote the message that ‘Everyone has the right to live free from Abuse and Neglect’.
11.30am – 1.00pm: In the second session, NDS will launch their new e-learning and downloadable resources for ‘Understanding Abuse’, developed as part of the Victorian Zero Tolerance Projects. The resources are designed to promote a change in the way abuse and neglect are understood, and to offer practical tools to be used by individuals, teams and in supervision. This session is primarily aimed at support workers, team leaders and supervisors wishing to learn about the new resources and how they can be used in your organisation.
