Tasmanian Government’s Budget announcement

The Foster and Kinship Carers Association of Tasmania (FKAT) welcomes continued increase in Support Payments for the next four years

The Foster and Kinship Carers Association of Tasmania (FKAT) has welcomed the Tasmanian Government’s recent Budget announcement –

Minister Palmer confirmed that the 2026-27 Tasmanian budget includes an investment of $8.0 million over four years to continue the increase to the base foster and kinship care allowance.

I would like to thank Minister Palmer’s commitment and support to the Tasmania’s Foster and Kinship Carers through the continued uplift to the base rate of the foster and kinship care allowance. This continued increase to the base rate of the foster and kinship carers allowance is a significant acknowledgment of the extraordinary commitment of foster and kinship carers across Tasmania.

This investment will directly benefit the children and young people who rely on the love, nurturing, stability and care these families provide.

The Foster and Kinship Carers Association of Tasmania looks forward to continuing to work with the Tasmanian Government to strengthen supports for carers and ensure all children have the opportunity to grow up safe, supported and thriving.
